vorona @ zodion

✖ PLAYER:
Name & DW Journal: Shari ( broski )
Birthdate & Age: August 16, 1992 ; 20
Characters played in Zodion: n/a

✖ CHARACTER:
Name: Vorona
Canon: Durarara!!
PB/Image: here!
Info links: here!
Canon Point: Post Volume 10
Gender & Sex: Female, female.
Age: 19
Birthdate/Sign: November 16th / Scorpio ( not canon! ). The only other sign I would have considered for Vorona would be Aries, however, I went with Scorpio due to the slightly more emotional feel of the sign. Even though Vorona has a bit of a stoic presence, she is more emotional than what’s put on the table—and more compassionate than most people would otherwise know. Whereas Aries mainly plays on her violent tendencies ( which, admittedly, plays a huge defining role in Vorona’s character ), Scorpio manages to encompass her entire personality.
Tattoo: The size of a half-dollar, and on the inside of her right breast ( reflective of the cross scar she has on her left ).
Power: Healing.

Personality:

When talking about Vorona's personality, it is important to first understand her background. Raised in Russia to a father who essentially ignored her for the better part of her childhood insured her a bit of a lonely and sheltered childhood, which is seen through her slight ignorance as an adult. Without any proper "real-world" experiences, she relied on reading books as the main income of her knowledge of the outside world. While this did help her in a technical aspect ( learning the models of guns and such ) this hurt her when it came to the whole "making friends" bit of childhood and child play. That's still seen in her personality today.

Reading the wide variety of books that she did, Vorona can easily recite random facts on the spot. She can be rather tasteless when it comes to this, as she doesn’t get embarrassed easily, and says interesting facts when it comes to nipples or fetuses ( this happens in canon ). It’s an instantaneous habit—someone says something, and she shoots out information they probably never even wanted to hear. It’s relatively hard for her to suppress, though she would never want to, given that she doesn't particularly care what people think about her.

Vorona is all about adaptability, and as a Russian spy, that makes sense. "When in Rome, do as Romans do", is her life motto, and she lives by it day in and day out. Upon arriving in Japan, Vorona refuses to speak another wink of Russian, because that isn’t the language Japan. However, her Japanese ( or English, in this case ) is pretty awkward—that is, it’s very abrupt and sometimes needlessly complex. People who aren’t used to it can sometimes find it hard to understand, or unpleasant to listen to. Vorona doesn’t really care either way, and refuses to make it better because she’s fine with how her English is.

... One thing that should go mentioned, even if it's heavily expressed in the wiki link upstairs, is that Vorona is addicted to proving herself. It's a drug, in a pure sense. If she sees someone stronger than her, she has to fight them and beat them, no matter what. It's an adrenaline rush -- seeing people stronger or angrier than her gets her riled up, and she needs to let out that built up energy in the only way she knows how: violence. Fighting is something she's been trained in since she was little, and due to her father's illegal gun business, she never got a finger shake for when she got violent. So she doesn't see it as a bad thing.

That said, however, Vorona doesn't fight to kill ( even though she will, and not think twice about it ). She fights for scientific and curiosity reasons, and possibly out of her own boredom. It's almost as if she sees people as live dummies, which can easily be replaced or fixed. At the age of ten, she managed to kill a man with a gun, and her only thought was that the body stiffened faster than what had been written in the books she read. Despite having an emotional frenzy when the chance to fight presents itself, Vorona is largely unattached to the act of killing, or pain.

Vorona is not nearly as robotic as she appears to be, and although she was raised in a way that told her to be completely emotionless, her personality still shines through. Mainly in relation to her undoubted curiosity, though, she still has a few insights to her inner human when she and Shizuo speak of Russian cakes, and she reveals that she has an incredibly large sweet tooth. It's very hard to sympathize with Vorona due to her low moral grounds, but when her human-ness shines out, it becomes increasingly difficult to hate her. She was a lonely child, put through a life of illegal trade, death, and training training training. It's no wonder she's so unafraid of death, because it completely encompassed her for her whole life.

It is worth noting, that Vorona doesn't necessarily hate her father. She doesn't particularly like him, per say, but she's not completely at ends with him. Given that he fought to protect her life after she ran away to Japan tells that there are a few lingering father and daughter emotions, even though the only time he had even shown her affection was when she killed a man.

✖ SAMPLES:
"Zodion" First-Person Network Entry:

[ At this point in time, Vorona has been in Zodion for about two weeks, simply getting adjusted to life in the new place. The feed kicks off with a video of Vorona standing outside of the library, a slightly… unsatisfied look on her features. ]

This library… [ There’s a gesture behind her. ] Read the books. Some, many times. However…

History section is unsatisfactory. Yes… affirmative. Hardly any information on the past Zodion is kept. Missing, perhaps? Vanished?

Relocated?

[ The camera is turned on her once again, face still serious through and through. ]

Should anyone locate information, send it back… to the library. I thank you very much.

"Zodionlogs" Third-Person Prose Entry:

Despite everything, Vorona is sure this isn’t the strangest thing that’s ever happened to her.

Or maybe it was, but she wasn’t in the right mind to be comparing her prior experiences and this one together. She wasn’t in the right mind to be thinking anything, really, other than the tactical plan for escape.

Fight off the guards, run out the door, break the chains.

Vorona lifts a hand up to feel the resistance and—

There’s nothing.

Her hand hangs out above where she lays, the feeling of freedom washing over her entire being, as her fingers separate one by one, her wrist turning over many times. She wasn’t chained. She was repressed. Perhaps it was only that one arm—but on further inspection, requiring her to stand up entirely, she finds that… she’s free.

No chasing, no fighting, no breaking or biting.

This was boring.

Maybe boring isn’t right. True, she’s happy to be free, but there’s a twinge of disappointment when she thinks she won’t be able to smell the blood of her victims, or hear the cracking of bones, or see the dead bodies of her captors go limb with slowly creeping death.

Blond hair swishes as she looks from side to side. There’s hardly a hum of approval on discovering there’s no one watching her, no guards or assassins.

She’s disappointed.

But disappointment isn’t going to stop her from looking down—seeing a glowing mark on her right breast, where a small prick of pain emitted from. Vorona hardly noticed the pain, until the glow found its way into her line of vision, only the fade as she made eye contact with it. She knew that symbol. It hardly took a moment before—

“Scorpio. Western zodiac. Element water.”

Of course, that didn’t mean she had any clue what it was for—it was her Zodiac sign and that seemed to be enough of a connection. Easily enough, she manages to find the mirror, simply staring the plunge of her neckline which allowed her full view of both her tattoo and her scar.

“Forced into tattoo getting. Is not a… strategy I am familiar with.”

Blue eyes close for a second longer than a blink, and Vorona steps forward, taking the written message into her hand.
